Tier 2 Effective Writing Instruction

MTSS team members will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to design and deliver tier 2 supports and services in writing. Alterable variables for differentiating instruction, intensifying instruction, and addressing student writing needs will be presented. Instructional accommodations for English Learners (ELs) will specifically be addressed within this context. Tier 2 intervention will also be examined by linking student assessment data with appropriate instructional interventions. As writing samples are examined, for example, educators will ask: “If students have difficulty with ___________, what interventions can be used to improve student performance?” The workshop will conclude with a comprehensive case study application that examines instructional and intervention alignment across tiered providers.

Objectives

  • Differentiate between tier 1 and tier 2 instruction
  • Define alterable design and delivery variables for tier 2 instruction
  • Identify appropriate accommodations for English learners (ELs)
  • Link assessment and instruction by using student assessment data and writing samples to identify tier 2 interventions

Target Audience

Reading Educators, General Educators, Special Education Leaders

Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
