IDEA and Charter Schools: Advanced Topics

Designed for charter schools, this training will support participant understanding of the legal foundations for students with disabilities as held in IDEA and Chapter 711. Through scenarios and activities, topics featured will include provision of services, attendance, related services, homebound instruction, instruction in the home, transportation, and early intervention transition.

Objectives

Participants will:

  1. Differentiate between amount of supports and Least Restrictive Environment and state how they impact the provision of services and programming options.
  2. Identify when a School Attendance Improvement Conference is required and why.
  3. Discern charter school transportation responsibilities for students with and without disabilities.
  4. Summarize the responsibilities and relationship between charter schools and early intervention transition process.

Target Audience

This training is designed for special education leaders in charter school settings who support programming for students with disabilities.

Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
