The 2017 Pennsylvania HELIX Conference: High Expectations for Students With Low Incidence Disabilities is a three-day conference that provides educators and families with skills, strategies, and opportunities for collaboration in order to support students with hearing loss, intellectual disabilities, visual impairment, traumatic brain injury, who are Deaf-Blind, and/or students with complex communication needs. Through in-depth sessions by national, state, and local experts in their fields, and a day of interactive sessions focused on assistive technology, the HELIX Conference seeks to provide a space supportive of high expectations for all students.


Participants will:

  • Describe best practices for supporting students with low incidence disabilities
  • Make connections between best practices learned at the conference and one´s current practice with students in the classroom
  • Exchange strategies and new ideas gained with colleagues and presenters in order to reflect on one´s own practices

Target Audience

Teachers, administrators, speech language pathologist, related service providers, consultants, training and consulting staff, paraprofessionals, family members

Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
