Implementing Strengths-Based Methods into the IEP Process

This session will describe the key components of a strengths-based practice model for school-based occupational and physical therapists. Evidence for the use of a strengths-based model will be reviewed from multiple disciplines. Participants will be introduced to a new E-Learning tool on the use of strengths-based procedures during the IEP teaming process. Specific case examples on using strengths-based procedures with the low incidence student population will be included with examples of how occupational and physical therapists can promote more active involvement of students in their own learning and self-advocacy.
